Seniors’ Secretariat Encourages Island Groups to Submit Proposals for Funding

The Government of Prince Edward Island, through the Seniors’ Secretariat, is inviting organizations and community groups that want to undertake activities for seniors to submit a funding proposal, says Doug Currie, Minister of Family and Human Services.

“Through this funding we are able to assist community groups and organizations to undertake work that will benefit Island seniors,” said Minister Currie. “The Seniors’ Secretariat works in collaboration with many organizations to improve the quality of life of our seniors.”

This year the Secretariat is looking for applications that target projects that address ageism, age-friendly communities and/or social isolation.

“The Seniors’ Secretariat is pleased to once again offer the opportunity for communities, seniors clubs and organizations to undertake projects and programs of benefit to Island seniors. Last year sixteen organizations received funds to support their projects and the Secretariat looks forward to receiving new ideas from community organizations this year,” said Mary Hughes, chairperson of the Seniors’ Secretariat.

Non-profit organizations, community-based coalitions, networks, municipal governments, band or tribal councils and other Aboriginal organizations in Prince Edward Island whose mandate and proposed projects align with the work of the Secretariat are eligible to apply. The deadline for submissions is June 22, 2015.
