Saskatchewan Hosts Canada Northwest FASD Partnership Ministers’ Meeting

News Release – September 14, 2012

Social Services Minister June Draude will host the Canada Northwest Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Partnership Minister’s Meeting tomorrow in Saskatoon to celebrate achievements of the Partnership and discuss future direction in addressing FASD in Canada.

“Saskatchewan is proud to lead the Canada Northwest FASD Partnership this year and we are honoured to host the ministers’ meeting,” Draude said. “Jurisdictions will join together tomorrow to share experiences in addressing FASD and set goals for the Partnership. Our vision is to build a comprehensive support system across Canada which encourages women to have alcohol-free pregnancies, and also provides needed assistance to individuals affected by FASD.”

Ministers from western provinces and territories responsible for the partnership will review the annual report and provide feedback and direction to the partnership’s research network. As well, keynote speakers will share their insights on topics such as FASD prevalence and economic impacts.

Saskatchewan is a founding partner of the Canada Northwest FASD Partnership, an alliance of seven jurisdictions that works toward the development and promotion of an interprovincial and inter-territorial approach to FASD prevention, intervention, care and support.
