In October 2011, the IHRDP hosted a northern Aboriginal health workshop in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The following report was developed: ‘Researched to Life: a Report on the IHRDP Northern Aboriginal Health Research Workshop.’
This workshop was a way to better engage communities and researchers in the Northwest region of the province and provide an opportunity to share research knowledge and experience, and to answer questions or concerns about research that might exist among northern Ontario participants. It also gave an opportunity to inform participants about the IHRDP and the Institute of Aboriginal Peoples’ Health (IAPH), and to increase research readiness, develop research partnerships, and ensure that research is conducted in an ethical manner – with respect for local needs and Indigenous ways of knowing.
