Request for Proposals: Fit Nation Leader Training – Program Development Phase

Are you a certified fitness instructor? Do you have experience as a personal trainer or a background in delivering physical activity programs in a First Nation, Métis Chartered Community, or Friendship Centre? If so, you may be interested in this unique opportunity to participate in the development of a new provincial fitness program called Fit Nation.

Over the next 6 months, the Aboriginal Sport, Recreation and Physical Activity Partners Council will be working with Dwayne Roberts, Canada’s only certified Nike Sparq trainer, to complete the development phase for its new Fit Nation program. The process will involve recruiting a select group of Aboriginal fitness and physical activity leaders who will be trained to deliver the Fit Nation program in their own communities. The program incorporates dynamic stretching exercises in a fun, adaptable and easy-to-use workout format designed to increase physical activity in Aboriginal communities and Friendship Centres across British Columbia.

Upon completing an intensive two-day training process, the newly trained Fit Nation leaders will be responsible for planning and delivering 2-3 Fit Nation classes per week in their community/Friendship Centre within an 8-week timeframe. At the conclusion of the community pilot programs, the Fit Nation leaders will be brought together to participate in an evaluation
process where they will share their experiences and assist with the design of the final program format in preparation for the official Fit Nation program launch in September 2013.
