Rabies suspected in Cambridge Bay

03 December 2018

The Department of Health would like to notify residents of Cambridge Bay that a dog in the community is suspected to have rabies.
People are reminded to be aware of the signs and symptoms of the disease. If you see an animal behaving strangely, staggering, frothing at the mouth, choking or making strange noises, avoid the animal and report it to bylaw.

Keep domestic animals tied up when they are outside, and monitor their behavior.

Dogs and foxes can transmit rabies to people. If you have been bitten or scratched, go to the health centre and report the incident immediately. Treatment must be started quickly.
If you see a fox or wolf wandering around the community, or if your dog has had contact with a fox or wolf, call the environmental health officer at 867-983-5241, or bylaw at 867-983-5305.
