The Department of Health would like to notify residents of Hall Beach that a dog was confirmed to have rabies.
People are reminded to be aware of the signs and symptoms of the disease. If you see an animal behaving strangely, staggering, frothing at the mouth, choking or making strange noises, avoid the animal and report it to bylaw.
An infected dog that is sick may appear friendly.
Dogs and foxes can transmit rabies to people. If you have been bitten or scratched, go to the health centre and report the incident immediately.
If you see a fox or wolf wandering around the community, or if your dog has had contact with a fox or wolf, call the conservation officer immediately at 867-975-7780 or the regional environmental health officer at 867-975-4800.
