Iqaluit, Nunavut (April 22, 2025) – At a luncheon today, Deputy Minister of Health Megan Hunt presented six Queen Elizabeth II scholarships to top Nunavut Arctic College nursing students and one Savanna Pikuyak scholarship to a pre-health student.

The Queen Elizabeth II scholarship is $3,000 and is presented annually to top students in the second, third, and fourth years of the nursing program. The Savanna Pikuyak scholarship provides $5,000 to a pre-health student to support their studies.

“Our communities need not just nurses, but Nunavummiut nurses who understand Nunavut culture, and the unique needs of our people and communities.” said Deputy Minister Hunt. “The Department of Health will continue to be a partner to help minimize financial barriers to educational opportunities and recognize outstanding academic achievements with this scholarship as an example.”

The 2025 recipients of the Queen Elizabeth II scholarship are Adam Tatty, Dianne Caguioa, Jade Anawak, Juliet Egeni, Jane Mansbridge, and Evora Essoh. The Savanna Pikuyak scholarship was presented to pre-health student Malaiyah Nakoolak. The awards are part of the Department of Health’s continued financial support to train Nunavummiut nurses.
