QIA outlines COVID-19 supports in Resolute Bay

Press Release

Iqaluit, Nunavut, February 9, 2022 – The Qikiqtani Inuit Association’s (QIA) initiative to help alleviate food insecurity and to support isolation efforts for communities affected by COVID-19 continues with a food voucher program in Resolute Bay.

Qikiqtani Inuit living in Resolute Bay are eligible to receive food vouchers valued at $250 per family. If you are more than one family in a household, please contact COVID-19@qia.ca or 1-867-975-8383 for further supports.

“Supporting food security has proven to be an effective tool against combatting the spread of COVID-19 in other communities.  We are glad to support the people of Resolute Bay while they navigate and adjust to living with COVID-19 in their community” says QIA President Olayuk Akesuk.

“Resolute Bay can get through this outbreak if we follow the public health guidelines. I am confident that together, we can get back to normal”, says QIA Board Member for Resolute Bay Paul Amagoalik.

QIA, in partnership with Arctic Co-Op Ltd, will be delivering food vouchers to community members in Resolute Bay.

Here is how it works:

  • Starting immediately, QIA and Arctic Co-Ops will begin contactless delivery of a food voucher valued at $250.
  • A second card valued at $250 will be delivered starting on or around March 2nd, 2022.

The funds for QIA’s COVID-19 response come from the Government of Canada’s Indigenous Community Support Fund.
