CancerCare Manitoba (CCMB) requires a Project Coordinator to support enhancing cancer control and outcomes in southern Frist Nation citizens in Manitoba. This position is part of a collaborative endeavor with Southern Chiefs’ Organization (SCO) and is funded through the generous support of the CancerCare Manitoba foundation (CCMF).

Job Summary:

This position reports directly to the CCMB Underserved Populations Program Lead; however, both CCMB and SCO will work in partnership to jointly provide direction and oversight to this position with respect to the development of project objectives and activities. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for the coordination, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of activities related to the project “Enhancing Cancer Control and Outcomes in First Nation Citizens of the South”. The Project Coordinator will also collaborate with stakeholders to ensure that the initiative is conducted in a culturally safe and appropriate way.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Deliver project objectives outlined in the project proposal and funding agreement.
    • Work in partnership with SCO-member Nations, Health Directors and Community Connectors to share in the development of a plan to enhance cancer control and outcomes in First Nation citizens of the south
    • Manage project work plans containing tasks, milestones, deliverables, timelines, evaluation and required resources
    • Perform tasks as specified in project work plan/activities and collaborate with stakeholders as appropriate to complete tasks
    • Maintain records of project materials, activities, and budget statements, as well as document milestones and expenses
    • Conduct environmental scans, literature reviews and/or other information gathering strategies
    • Evaluate the process and impact of the project
    • Compile and analyze information to develop reports
    • Implement strategies outlined in the proposal for the sustainability of project efforts and outcomes after the project end date
  2. Manage respectful project communication needs between CCMB, SCO, the funding agency, and the Project Network.
    • Develop trusted relationships with the Project Network, from community members to regional stakeholders
    • Disseminate regular updates and briefing notes to ensure the CancerCare Manitoba, SCO, the funding agency and the Project Network are apprised of project/initiative progress, as appropriate
    • Apprise CCMB Underserved Populations Program Lead and SCO of risks as they arise and collaborate as appropriate to mitigate and ensure timely achievement of project/initiative deliverables
    • Organize Project Network meetings, including all logistics necessary to do so, such as, but not limited to creating agendas, arranging travel, and securing venues
    • Chair Project Network and committee/working group meetings, including organizing and supervising logistics, preparing briefing documents and meeting materials such as, but not limited to meeting minutes
    • Inform CCMB and SCO staff regularly of project progress and outcomes
    • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Baccalaureate degree in Health Sciences, Social Services, Native Studies or related filed/discipline, combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in project coordination
  • Experience with and demonstrated understanding of, First Nations on and off reserve
  • Experience in respectfully working with First Nations, partners and stakeholders
  • Must be able to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with all levels of staff and the general public
  • Demonstrated project management, collaboration and organizational skills
  • Ability to problem solve and think critically with strong attention to detail
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills, including presenting to various audiences
  • Must be skilled in working with technology including the Internet, and Microsoft programs including Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Must be able to work independently, as well as with a team, and be able to prioritize and adapt within a fast-paced changing environment
  • Must have suitable access to a reliable vehicle and valid Class 5 Drivers License
  • Available to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Must have a satisfactory employment record
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience working in a health-care environment
  • Experience in community engagement and or event planning
  • Knowledge of the cancer continuum, and cancer services
  • Knowledge of OCAP® (Ownership, Control, Access and Possession) principles
  • Demonstrated knowledge of qualitative and quantitative program evaluation
  • Previous experience writing grants and reports to funding agencies
  • Preference will be given to qualified First Nations candidates

Asset:

  • Master’s degree
  • Fluency in Dakota or Anishinaabemowin
  • Ability to speak French

Salary: Non-Union (compensation will be based on qualifications)
