McGuinty Government Promoting Awareness, Prevention and Recovery

Ninety-four not-for-profit groups across the North are receiving help from the government to make life safer for women and children.In Northern Ontario, the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines and Forestry supports the work of community organizations through the Violence Against Women Prevention Initiative.

This year’s selected organizations will raise public awareness, train staff and offer information workshops, in addition to providing shelter for victims of domestic violence.

> This year, Ontario is providing 94 organizations in Northern Ontario with a total of $280,000 through the Violence Against Women Prevention Initiative for programs, resources and equipment.
