President Froh to speak at upcoming Indigenous Health Conference 2016

This week, over 650 delegates from across Canada and beyond will gather at the Hilton Meadowvale, Mississauga, to hear from some of the nation’s most knowledgeable and dynamic speakers at the Indigenous Health Conference (IHC) 2016: Towards Health and Reconciliation.

The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) has a strong presence at this international event, with MNO President Margaret Froh providing a keynote address on the opening day, along with colleagues from the Assembly of First Nations (AFN), Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK), senior government officials, and leading members of Canada’s academic community. The MNO will also host a cultural display and information booth in the main Exhibition Hall showcasing Métis culture and way-of-life and the work of the MNO in promoting better health and well-being for the Métis Nation. MNO citizens and musicians Alicia and Liam Blore, along with Métis dancers Simone Blais and Joanna Burt, will be entertaining guests at the Conference Reception on the evening of May 26, which will be opened with a blessing by MNO Senator Joseph Poitras. Dr. Storm J. Russell, MNO Senior Policy and Research Analyst, together with colleagues from the MNO, the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences, and the University of Waterloo will also deliver a workshop that highlights the MNO’s evidence and culture-based approaches to improving Métis health. Dr. Russell also served as a member of the Conference Organizing Committee.

IHC 2016 is shaping up to be a high profile, must-attend event for all health-related professionals aiming to expand their knowledge and resources in addressing the health challenges faced by Canada’s Indigenous peoples. The MNO is proud to be a part of this important event and to continue to contribute in substantial ways to improving the health and well-being of the Métis Nation.
