Peter Eckert retires as Vice President of Finance and welcomes Chris Mullen to the role

Press Release

October 31, 2024

Today the FNHA offers our gratitude to Peter Eckert for his 10 years of service and dedication to this organization, as he begins his new journey in retirement. Peter joined the FNHA in 2013 as Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, eventually transitioning to the role of Vice President of Finance. Peter has been a mainstay at Regional Caucuses over the years. He also played a pivotal role in the negotiations for the FNHA’s new 10-year funding agreement. He was a kind and humble leader and he will be missed.

The FNHA welcomes Chris Mullen to his new role as VP of Finance effective today. Chris was the successful candidate following an extensive recruitment process. He most recently served in the capacity of Director, Funding Arrangements with the FNHA’s Finance team.

Chris is a proud member of Gambler First Nation from Manitoba. He was born and raised and currently lives with his wife and two sons in North Vancouver on the beautiful unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. He has a Bachelor of Business of Administration degree, is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), and has over 20 years of experience working with private and public companies and First Nations’ governments and economic development corporations.

Chris spent the first half of his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Downtown Vancouver providing tax advisory, compliance and audit services, and has for the past 10 years worked exclusively with First Nation and Indigenous communities and organizations across Canada in strategic planning, economic development, and finance operations. This included time working at the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority and the Squamish Nation. Chris takes great pride in giving back to First Nations communities and currently holds a seat as board member for the Tla’amin Nation’s economic development group.

When not in the office you will find Chris on the baseball diamond or soccer pitch coaching his sons, cooking, travelling with his wife, or in the sand trap at the local golf course. Chris is honoured and grateful for the opportunity to serve in the capacity of Vice President of Finance with the FNHA, working alongside the talented finance and senior executive teams, as we continue to transform and improve health care for First Nations in BC.
