The team plans for the First Exposure database to contain up to 500 prescription and over-the-counter medications. It will also include answers to questions about using alcohol, cannabis and non-prescription drugs during pregnancy and lactation.

Expectant parents in Ontario have a new way to access evidence-based information to help them make decisions about using prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs and getting vaccinated during pregnancy and lactation.

The program, called First Exposure and led by the University of Toronto’s Dalla Lana School of Public Health, allows pregnant people and their care providers to search a secure website for safety-based medication information.
