Position Summary
Interior Health’s Penticton Regional Hospital (PRH) and its Long-Term Care facilities within the South Okanagan invites applications for the role of Occupational Therapist. We are looking for knowledgeable Occupational Therapists with experience in identifying and assessing occupational performance issues important to the client considering the client’s personal context, valued occupations and environmental strengths, and resources utilizing an evidence-based approach.PRH is a 155-bed Acute Care facility in the Okanagan Health Service Area and responsible for providing core medical and surgical specialty services to surrounding population of approximately 90,000 people. The Occupational Therapist’s focus would be physical/medical adult, including inpatient surgical/orthopaedics, rehab unit, medical caseload. Our South Okanagan Long-Term Care (LTC) facilities consist of Westview Place (Penticton), McKinney/Sunnybank (Oliver, BC) and Dr Andrew Pavillion (Summerland). Our LTC facilities embody a resident-centered philosophy designed to support residents’ choices, help people function at their highest level, and provide the best quality of life possible.

As an Occupational Therapist you will work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary rehabilitation team providing inpatient occupational therapy services including assessment, treatment planning and implementation, program planning, consultation, equipment prescription and education of clients and/or their caregivers to promote functional independence and enable the client to achieve and maintain optimal health outcomes. Reporting to the Occupational Therapy Professional Practice Leader, you will draw upon your ability to implement occupational therapy services utilizing diverse intervention approaches by carrying out the plan, engaging the client in activities associated with occupational roles and the client’s goals, assessing and modifying the implementation, and identifying completion criteria to promote, develop, maintain and/or restore occupational potential. It is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the organization and the overall goals of the department and provide work direction to the rehabilitation assistants working with the rehabilitation team in regards to transfer of function.

Casual employment means work requirements can vary between Zero and 37.5 hours per week. Shifts when offered on short notice or pre-planned will be 08:00 to 16:00 hours and could be within a 7 day work week. Flexibility and availability to accept shifts is a requirement of the position. Casual employees receive 12.6% of their straight time pay, exclusive of all premiums, in lieu of scheduled vacations and statutory holidays. Upon completion of 180 hours, there is option of purchasing medical, dental and extended health benefit plans.

PRH: As a regional facility and secondary referral centre for the South Okanagan and Similkameen Valley, you will be joining an excellent complement of health care professionals and specialists. In April 2019 PRH opened phase one of its new, state of the art Patient Care Tower. The Patient Care Tower includes a brand new ambulatory care centre, surgical services center, 84 medical/surgical inpatients beds in single patient rooms, a new medical device reprocessing unit and space for the UBC Faculty of Medicine Program. Phase two is now underway and will involve the renovation in the current hospital to allow the expansion of the emergency department four times its current size.

Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience:
• Graduation from a recognized occupational therapy program.
• Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia (COTBC). Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists or British Columbia Society of Occupational Therapists.
• Valid BC Driver’s license.Skills and Abilities:

• Leadership: Promotes staff morale, engagement, and risk-taking. Demonstrates creative planning for change and innovations, implementation of IH policies or other protocols, and ongoing professional development of self and others.
• Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to foster teamwork and a commitment to excellence in the provision of client care.
• Equipment: Demonstrated computer skills including the use of Meditech and Windows based programs. Demonstrated data analysis skills including appropriate data analysis and reporting tools. Demonstrated ability in the use of e-mail and word processing. Ability to operate other related equipment as required in the specific practice area.
