NWT Residents Rate Health Services Highly In Latest Satisfaction Surveys

The majority of NWT residents are pleased with the health services provided to them, according to two recent surveys of patient satisfaction conducted by the Government of the Northwest Territories. Tabled in the Legislative Assembly this week, the reports represent the latest component in the GNWT’s continued efforts to ensure the healthcare needs of NWT residents are met.“Listening and responding to client satisfaction at the health centre and hospital level is a best business practice,” said Minister of Health and Social Services Sandy Lee. “The GNWT is committed to ensuring that all NWT residents have positive experiences with the healthcare system, and these reports provide us with important information on how our services are being received.”
The first report, the NWT Hospital Satisfaction Report, outlines patient satisfaction in each of the four NWT hospitals. Respondents gave considerable recognition to staff competence, professionalism, helpfulness and friendliness.
The second report, the Community Health Services Satisfaction Report, measures consumer satisfaction with health programs and services provided within NWT health centres, medical clinics and public health units. Overall, respondents were satisfied with existing services received in their respective communities.

Client feedback from these two reports enables the Department of Health and Social Services to gauge its efforts to provide the best possible services within its existing resources. As outlined in A Foundation For Change, an action plan from the Department, such feedback is aimed at meeting the goal of a people-oriented system where all activities of the health and social services system support an approach that puts people first.
