NunatuKavut committed to supporting Labrador cancer patients

February 10, 2015

The NunatuKavut Community Council (“NCC”) was pleased to present a cheque for $5,000 to Kim Hipkins, Community Resource Coordinator of the Canadian Cancer Society.

The money will assist a new program initiative by the Canadian Cancer Society – the “Labrador Air Travel Assistance Program”. All funds contributed to this initiative will go towards providing assistance to cancer patients in Labrador who have to travel by air for medical treatment. The Labrador Air Travel Assistance Program is designed to alleviate the burden of a cancer diagnosis and the inevitable travel costs associated with obtaining treatment outside Labrador.

“This is such a worthwhile initiative that will help address a truly pressing need”, commented NCC President Todd Russell. “This is the second year we have made a $5000 donation to the Canadian Cancer Society, and we are happy to know that our contributions will help alleviate the travel costs associated with cancer treatment”.

Along with this donation, NCC has been committed to supporting the Canadian Cancer Society throughout the years with various donations to the Relay for Life events across Labrador, the Hope for Healing Radiothon, and the Canadian Cancer Society’s Annual Gala.
