Press Release
(February 16, 2022 – Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI) COVID-19 programs are evolving to adapt to new technologies and needs.
Depending on weather conditions, 6,300 Artron COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Tests will be arriving in Rankin Inlet today. These tests will be distributed to Nunavut daycares to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 among young children who cannot be vaccinated at this time and long-term care facilities. A second shipment of 4,300 tests are expected during this month.
Now that the Government of Nunavut is providing isolation grocery hampers, NTI has made the decision to refocus our efforts on making antigen tests available to limit the spread. As of Wednesday, February 16, 2022, NTI will no longer be accepting applications for the COVID-19 isolation kits. NTI will process any outstanding applications received prior to the end of the day.
NTI has spent more than $3 million on isolation kits since the start of the pandemic, including $2,550,126 of Indigenous Community Support Funds and $461,000 from Canadian Food Centres Canada, providing over 6,000 isolation kits to Nunavut Inuit households. Food support programs continue to be available through the Regional Inuit Associations for Nunavut Inuit.
NTI would like to recognize Inuit who have followed the Public Health guidelines, limited contacts and been vaccinated. You have all done your part to lessen the spread of Covid-19 in Nunavut and keep our friends and families safe.
