NTI: Cultural and Healing Program Launch

(Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. is pleased to announce the launch of the Cultural and Healing Program, in which Inuit can apply for funding for projects that address the harms and intergenerational effects of residential schools or for On-the-Land Programs or the teaching of Inuit history, culture, languages and traditions.

Individual Inuit or a group of Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, urban or friendship centers or early childhood centres are eligible to apply up to a maximum of twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000) towards any cultural or healing program to be provided to Inuit Enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement.

The application period will begin May 1 and end May 31, 2019 to allow time for eligible applicants to develop and plan for the spring and summer season (although programs can be delivered any time of the year). Only ten applicants will be selected and awarded the Program funds each fiscal year.

Any applicant is eligible to apply, even if they may reside out of Nunavut. However, applicants must target a minimum of 75% clientele of Inuit Enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement in order to be eligible to deliver their project.

The funds stem from the remainder of the Common Experience Payment Trust Fund in which NTI received on behalf of former residential school students to be held in trust with Nunavut Tunngavik Foundation.
