IQALUIT, Nunavut (May 18, 2016) –The Nunavut Suicide Prevention Strategy (NSPS) partners – Government of Nunavut (GN), Nunavut Tunngavik Inc (NTI), Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and Embrace Life Council (ELC) – will implement all 13 of the jury recommendations resulting from the coroner’s inquest in Hall Beach that took place on May 2-4, 2016.
Recommendations, made by jury members to help prevent similar circumstances from occurring again, were directed at the RCMP, the GN and the NSPS partners.
“We remain committed to ensuring the health and safety of all individuals in RCMP custody. The Nunavut Suicide Prevention partners are all committed to continuing to work on education, health and safety initiatives that contribute to Nunavut communities,” said RCMP C/Supt. Michael Jeffrey, speaking on behalf of NSPS partners.
The NSPS partners also wish to acknowledge the hard work of the jury members and all those who participated in this inquest.
