Notice to Dene Nation Regional Leadership: Recommendation for a Dene Nation Covid Advisory Committee Representative

Press Release

The Dene Nation is conducting COVID related research targeting Dene Nation communities. This research entails a survey and conversation-based interviews. The objective of this research is to understand what we can learn about the pandemic from a community leadership perspective. The aim is to provide insight into what is needed to better protect and prevent Dene communities from future outbreaks. We are looking for community members to join our Covid Research Advisory Committee to help guide this research. This committee will consist of one representative from each of the 5 Dene regions. The roles of this committee will include:

  • Providing insight into survey development and interview questions;
  • Providing direction on community protocols;
  • Provide insight into creating a Dene Nation Covid Information Center

This will be the 3rd phase contributing to this research. The 1st phase was considered successful, and we had good representation from communities. The 2nd phase was not as successful, as we had limited participation from communities. This was due to lockdown measures and limited our ability to interact with leadership. Leadership recruitment for their regional committee representative is fundamental to the success of this research and will provide our research team with appropriate feedback and direction.

Committee members will meet using an online platform a minimum of 4 times, each meeting will last 2-3 hours. Committee members will receive $300.00 for their contribution each meeting. Community member guidance in this research is integral and we look forward to working with the regional representative.
