The Department of Health is reminding residents of Sanikiluaq that water for consumption should come from the reverse osmosis units that have been installed in each household or store-bought water. Water from taps without a reverse osmosis unit installed is not safe to drink.
Health is working with the Hamlet of Sanikiluaq and the Department of Community and Government Services to look into reports of discoloured water in the community.
Residents may notice discolored water in bathtubs, which can be caused by a hot water tank that may have sediment or mineral build-up inside. This can also be caused by tannins or minerals within the source water.
It is essential to use water from the reverse osmosis units for the following uses:
