The Aboriginal Reference Group of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) met on Thursday, April 27 at the School’s West campus.
Chair Rosie Mosquito, welcomed two new representatives to the Reference Group: Elizabeth Angeconeb, Ontario Métis and Aboriginal Association and Sheila McMahon, Ontario Federation of Indian Friendship Centres. The Chair also announced with regret the resignation of member Shirley Salt.
Dr. Dan Hunt, Vice Dean, Academic Activities, reported that the School’s Senior Leadership Group accepted a recommendation that Aboriginal elders join their meetings. Since January 2006, designated elders Ernie Kwandibens (Lakehead University) and Julie Ozawagosh (Laurentian University) have attended NOSM Senior Leadership Group meetings to provide guidance and an Aboriginal perspective on NOSM activities.
