The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) welcomes you to the Fifth Annual Northern Health Research Conference (NHRC) to be held in Sudbury, Ontario. This
conference demonstrates NOSM’s commitment to health care and education to the people of Northern Ontario and beyond. The NHRC continues to explore research activities within Northern Ontario arising from community-based activities. It will highlight projects underway from students, residents and community-based researchers. The conference provides opportunities for collaboration and community networking.CALL FOR PAPERS – ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

The research work submitted should be original and innovative. Presentations will be either in oral or poster format. The length of oral presentations is expected to be 15 minutes in duration including discussion. Abstract submission guidelines and poster details will be available online. The Scientific Committee, which will review and evaluate all submitted Abstracts, reserves the right to accept or reject any paper and to make a final decision on the form of presentation.

The deadline for Abstract submission is February 1, 2010.

The NHRC Scientific Committee is inviting the submission of scientific abstracts on the
following subject areas, but not limited to:

• Aboriginal Health/Medicine
• Health and the Environment
• Cancer Basic Research
• Cancer Diagnostics
• Clinical Research
• Environmental Medicine
• Health Education
• Medical Education (CME, CPD, FD)
• Mitochondrial DNA Research
• Occupational Health
• Population Health/Public Health Issues
• Program Evaluation
• Rural and Remote Health Care Services
• Radio-therapy (device testing, device training, research)
• Rural Health Economics
• Social Sciences
• Telemedicine

The type of presentation (oral or poster) for all submitted abstracts will be determined by
the members of the Scientific Committee.

Abstract Submission Guidelines

• The research work submitted should be original and innovative
• Abstracts may not exceed 300 words in length
• Presentations will be either in oral or poster format
• Abstracts accepted for oral presentation will be allotted 15 minutes including discussion
• Where necessary, handouts must be provided by, and at the expense of the author(s)
• Posters must be designed to fit poster boards 3’ high by 4’ wide
• Presenters are responsible for producing all materials for the poster display, the set-up and take down of the display, and are required to attend their poster during designated periods
• Presenters must confirm their intent to participate and are required to pay the appropriate registration fees
• Please do not use Greek symbols – please spell out the words

Authors of submitted abstracts will be informed of the Scientific Committee’s
decision during the week of February 8, 2010. Acceptance notices will be sent by e-mail.
Subsequent communications, including details on the format and timing of oral
and poster presentations will be sent to the designated contact person.
