North Star Air Ltd. Supports Ontario SPCA Services and Programming for Indigenous Communities with a $30K Donation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Thunder Bay, ON (June 13, 2017) – Today, North Star Air Ltd. was pleased to present a cheque in the amount of $30, 312.00 to the Ontario SPCA to continue to provide support and services to remote
Indigenous communities in northern Ontario. Over the last two years the long-time air transport service provider and partner to the remote northern communities has teamed up with the Ontario SPCA, local groups, Indigenous communities and Humane Societies across Ontario, to help find new homes for over 140 northern dogs.

“Maintaining this partnership is very important to the team at North Star Air. One of the challenges our partner communities face is managing the population of dogs which comes as a result from lack of access to veterinarians or adoption homes,” says Frank Kelner, President and CEO, North Star Air, “We are proud to assist by providing transportation for the dogs in order to find new homes with coordination from Indigenous communities and the Ontario SPCA.”

This afternoon close to 20 dogs and puppies arrived in Thunder Bay from Big Trout Lake. Volunteer veterinarians accompanied the canines following a Spay and Neuter Clinic in the community. The animals will travel to Southern Ontario where they will be up for adoption to find new homes at Peterborough Humane Society. North Star Air assisted in the project by providing air service for the volunteer teams to travel to the remote community and to transport the animals back to Thunder Bay.

“We are so pleased to be working along side North Star Air Ltd. and Indigenous communities to provide Animal Welfare services,” says Judi Cannon, Associate Director, Indigenous Programs & Community Outreach, Ontario SPCA. “We are so grateful for the contribution of financial support and the airline’s hard work and dedication to these communities. Without them, transfers and access to veterinarian care would not be possible. They are truly making an impact in these communities and Animal Welfare.”
