North Simcoe ‘Water Does Wonders’ campaign pushes water over pop – Simcoe County

NORTH SIMCOE – A campaign launched in north Simcoe is encouraging children to drink water as a healthy alternative to sugar-sweetened beverages.

Called “Water Does Wonders,” it is the next phase of the Aboriginal Healthy Kids Community Challenge, which promotes healthy eating, physical activity and healthy lifestyle choices for children.

“We have lots of great activities planned as a part of this theme, including community hydration stations, water education in schools and the community, competitions and so much more,” said Chigamik Community Health Centre’s Jessica North, the project manger.

The initiatives within local aboriginal communities will promote water as a healthy drink, help make it an appealing and easy choice for kids and families, and incorporate traditional indigenous teachings about water in the program curriculum.
