Re: NNAPF National Wellness/Addictions Workforce Survey
Request for Regional and National Support

Dear Colleague:

The National Native Addictions Partnership Foundation (NNAPF) is seeking your support in promoting the Foundation’s National Wellness/Addictions Workforce Survey to key individuals and organizations. This is a reminder that your assistance in promoting the survey is needed. The Results will help establish baseline information, to further both regional and national interests of the wellness/addictions treatment and counsellor workforce.As an added incentive, NNAPF will make draws for NNAPF Jackets, Wellness Packages, and Human Resource Books at NNAPF’s upcoming Aboriginal Wellness/Addictions Workforce Forum, scheduled for February 2008 in Ottawa, for the first 150 Wellness/Addictions Counsellors who fully complete and return the survey. We are accepting surveys until Feb. 2008.

The survey(s) are now available online as of Monday, November 19th, 2007. The Internet address for the surveys ishttp://survey.nnapf.org.

Once on site please use the following passwords:
Treatment Directors Survey: directors2007
Counsellors/Community, Addictions/Wellness Workers Survey: Workers2007.

These same instructions for submission(s) are found on the last pages of the paper. Please call the main office if you are in need of assistance.

All community wellness & addictions counselors (including mental health counselors who have responsibility for Addictions programs / case load) should answer all questions. For questions that only say “treatment centre”, please interpret this to mean your community program as well.

Just as the role of Aboriginal addictions / wellness treatment and counsellor workforce is changing in both treatment centers and communities, the intent of the national workforce survey is to provide more up to date information about the workforce. This information will be available by region and in a national roll-up. We anticipate the information produced will help Regional Working Groups and NNAPF to better understand and develop a plan to address the overall needs of the Aboriginal wellness/addictions treatment and counsellor workforce.

For example, with the survey information, Regional Working Groups and the NNAPF will be able to better:

• describe the working conditions and practices to address both short and long-term training and professional development interests;
• assess current and future skill development and continuing educational needs and opportunities;
• develop plans to respond to the human resource challenges and issues identified; and/or,
• Provide for an analysis of how workforce supports might be delivered in innovative ways that are supportive to the workers.

Lastly, guided by the principles of OCAP, NNAPF is proposing a stewardship of the survey information. The Survey Project will be overseen by selected representatives of the NNAPF Board, Regional Working Groups, and FNIHB to ensure the Foundation’s national and regional interests are addressed in all of its diversity. As noted in the survey, all information will be kept in strict confidence, with survey results released only in the form of national and/or regional percentages. Individuals and communities/organizations are not identified. Surveys are identified by Province/Territory only.
