Race is a factor in quality of care, one advocate says
When Heather Winterstein collapsed and died in the emergency department at the St. Catharines site of Niagara Health last December, it was another sign of the discrimination Indigenous people face when they come into contact with the health care system, advocates say.
Winterstein’s story is one that happens all too often, and at a community meeting to discuss the issue, members of the Indigenous community in Fort Erie spoke out at a community forum hosted by the Fort Erie Native Friendship Centre in order for members of the Indigenous community to share their experiences with health care in Niagara.
