Niagara Health releases 2023-24 Annual Report

Niagara Health held its Annual General Meeting at the Marotta Family Hospital in St. Catharines on Tuesday, releasing the 2023-24 Annual Report, People First at the Heart of Transforming Care.

“As we reflect on the past year, it is with gratitude that we share the remarkable progress made in our journey of Transforming Care. Our strategic collaborations with municipal, provincial and federal partners have strengthened our ability to address community health needs and drive positive change,” says Marylee O’Neill, Chair, Niagara Health Board of Directors.

The 2023-2028 Strategic Plan guided us through a year of challenges and triumphs and this report shares the remarkable progress made in achieving our goals. “Commitment to high-quality patient care is our core priority, and we are dedicated to building a culture of continuous improvement and serving our community with unparalleled care and compassion. I’m thankful to our teams, community and partners for their ongoing support as we look towards the next year of our Strategic Plan and the future of hospital care in Niagara,” says Lynn Guerriero, President and CEO.

Interim Executive Vice-President, Medical and Chief of Staff Dr. Satish Chawla added “Over the past year, our dedicated physicians and staff have shown unwavering commitment to the patients and communities we serve. I am proud of our collaborative efforts, and the recruitment of 41 full-time permanent physicians and a Chief of Primary Care, which marks a significant milestone in our journey to transform healthcare in Niagara.”

Other key accomplishments highlighted in the report include:

• Strengthening Niagara Health’s commitment to a patient centered-culture and personalized care by creating a new Patient Experience team.
• Expanding the Indigenous Health Services and Reconciliation team to ensure the availability of culturally safe spaces for Indigenous patients and their families.
• Leveraging community partnerships and collaboration with all levels of government, successfully recruiting 41 full-time physicians, a Chief of Primary Care and 923 new team members.
• The historical ground-breaking of the South Niagara Hospital, a key investment in our future plan to increase capacity and provide seamless care across the region.
• Preparing and training for the launch of the new hospital information system in fall 2024, which will support better management of data, improved patient safety, enhanced quality and consistency of patient care and more.
• Transformational gifts that propelled our initiatives forward all made possible through the incredible work of the Niagara Health Foundation and the generosity of the community.
• Accreditation with Exemplary Standing from Accreditation Canada, and numerous accolades recognizing our diverse and talented workforce from Canada’s Best Diversity Employer, Hamilton-Niagara’s Top Employer and Brock University Non-Profit Co-Op Employer of the Year.
