The event, co-hosted by the Niagara Health Knowledge Institute, aims to support community organizations in integrating diversity, equity and inclusion and health equity into their operations. The conference brings together professionals, experts and advocates to share knowledge, discuss challenges and develop strategies for creating a more inclusive and equitable healthcare system.
“This conference is an important opportunity for leaders to come together and learn how we can better serve our communities,” says Zainab Awad, Manager, Health Equity, at Niagara Health. “By sharing knowledge and strategies, we can work towards a more equitable healthcare system for everyone.”
The conference, which will take place on Dec. 5, will feature keynote presentations from Sane Dube, Director, Health Equity and System Transformation at Ontario Health, who will discuss strategies for addressing disparities in healthcare and Fatima Sheikh, Health Equity Specialist at Hamilton Health Sciences and PhD candidate at McMaster University whose research is focused on the role of social determinants of health in critical care.
Participants can look forward to breakout sessions on topics such as best practices for DEI from an HR and people perspective, effective sociodemographic data collection, Indigenous health and Reconciliation and health equity strategy development. The day will also include a panel discussion with experts in health policy, community advocacy and research, who will share insights on advancing health equity through collaboration.
Bringing together DEI and health equity experts in one space creates a unique opportunity to drive meaningful action and encourage impactful dialogue among attendees. This collaborative environment will facilitate the sharing of innovative ideas and practical strategies, empowering participants to implement effective changes within their organizations.
The conference will offer both in-person attendance and a virtual option for the morning session, making the conference accessible to a wider audience.
Registration is now open and interested individuals can sign up by visiting the conference website. Participants can save on registration and book with early bird rates from now until Oct. 31, 2024. Early registration is encouraged as in-person space is limited.
