FNHMA and NNAPF Sign Memorandum of Understanding
Vancouver, BC (September 25, 2014) – Today, the First Nations Health Managers Association (FNHMA) and the National Native Addictions Partnership Foundation (NNAPF) sign a Memorandum of Understanding / Partnership Agreement (MOU) that will result in the two organizations working together to advance and improve First Nations health status.
The associations will address opportunities to collaborate and cooperate in three key areas:
“This Memorandum of Understanding supports our mutual commitment to create strong First Nation health institutions to support First Nation governments and organizations. We share a common goal in building capacity, knowledge, and professional development” said David McLaren, CFNHM, President FNHMA.
FNHMA is a national voluntary not-for-profit professional association that provides leadership in health management activities by developing and promoting quality standards, practice, research, certification and professional development to expand capacity for members and First Nations.
NNAPF is a non-governmental organization that was established in 2000 with membership from all regions of Canada and 3 national organizations. NNAPF advocates for Inuit and First Nations culturally-based services to address substance use issues and promote wellness. NNAPF is committed to developing capacity through policy and research, developing practical support tools, providing support and advocacy on emerging issues and raising awareness among mainstream providers about the nature and extent of substance abuse issues among First Nations in Canada. NNAPF provides leadership in national policy discussions and is currently championing the implementation of the Honouring Our Strengths: A Renewed Framework to Address Substance Use Issues Among First Nations In Canada.
