NFN: 2nd Positive COVID-19 related to Nbisiing Bus Lines Route 4-5

Nipissing First Nation (NFN) is advising the public of a second positive case of COVID-19 related to bus route 4-5 serving the communities of Yellek and Duchesnay. Both confirmed cases involve youth, with the first being a youth between the ages of 12 and 17 years who resides in Yellek and the second a youth under the age of 12 years who resides in Duchesnay.
Individuals considered high-risk exposures are those who were transported to school on Nbisiing Bus Lines Route 4-5 between Tuesday, September 7th and Friday, September 10th, 2021.
NFN Health Services is working closely with the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit and every individual living on NFN who is identified as a high-risk exposure will be contacted by one of our nurses. No personal health information will be released.
The Community Health Nurse has contacted all high-risk exposures and advised those who need to self-isolate, self-monitor and get tested for COVID-19 to do so. For high-risk exposures this COVID-19 test must be done at a testing centre and not a rapid test.

High-risk exposures and their household members with proof of full vaccination are not required to stay home as long as they remain asymptomatic. If symptoms develop they are to call a testing centre and book an appointment for a test.
All high-risk exposures or close contacts who are not vaccinated or not fully vaccinated have been advised to immediately stay home and self-isolate, self-monitor and to get tested for COVID-19.
Individuals are not cleared to board the bus or report to school if the following applies:
- The Community Health Nurse has not been able to reach you. In this instance, please contact the Community Health Nurse at (705) 840-8830 and provide a phone number where you can be reached.
- Full vaccination status cannot be confirmed. An individual is considered fully vaccinated if it has been more than 14 days since their 2nd dose of a COVID-19 vaccine that is approved by Health Canada.
- If an individual client does not want to provide covid-19 vaccination status the nurse they will have to follow the same protocol as unvaccinated individuals.
It is imperative that people continue follow public health guidance to prevent further spread of COVID-19 including washing hands, physical distancing, and wearing a face covering that fully covers the nose, mouth and chin and staying within your households as much as possible.

Youth COVID-19 Vaccines
The Pfizer vaccine for COVID-19 is available in NFN for youth aged 12 to 17 years. Community members in this age group residing in an NFN household can call the Health Centre at 705-753-3312 to register for a Pfizer vaccine and schedule an appointment.
