New Kehewin water treatment system to end drinking water advisory by 2020 – Journal of Commerce

KEHEWIN CREE NATION, ALTA. — Located approximately 31 kilometres southwest of Bonnyville, Alta., the community of Kehewin Cree Nation, which has been under a boil-water advisory for over 11 years, is in the process of building a new water treatment system with a goal to have the advisory lifted by 2020.

Designed by Associated Engineering, the project includes the construction of a new Water Treatment Plant (WTP), a raw water system as well as upgrades to the core area reservoir and pumphouse.

The construction contract for project has been awarded to Chandos Construction.

According to a recent release, Indigenous Services Canada has invested $13.9 million in the project.
