REPULSE BAY, Nunavut (May 13, 2013) – A special celebration marked the official opening of the new Repulse Bay Health Centre on Saturday, with a ribbon cutting officiated by the Honourable Keith Peterson, Minister of Health, the Honourable Lorne Kusugak, Minister of Community and Government Services, MLA John Ningark, Akulliq, MLA Jeannie Ugyuk, Nattilik, and Mayor Hugh Haqpi.
“The new health centre is a positive addition to the community,” said Minister Keith Peterson. “Our new facility will improve community access and better support our professional health care team in the delivery of high-quality health services.”
The new health centre has a contemporary design, a model that will be used for future health centre construction in Nunavut. The facility includes an open concept entry floor plan, a private office, plus five two-bedroom apartments for nurses and social workers.
Construction of the new $23.5 million health centre started in 2011. It replaces the old health centre, which had opened in 1983.
