Hope is to open centre as early as September.

A new community health centre (CHC) for people who are marginalized and don’t have a family doctor is expected to open soon in a temporary location — for a year, while other locations are considered — in the former TD Bank in Peterborough Square, said board chair Jonathan Bennett.

The plan is to open as early as September in Peterborough Square, Bennett said, though he said they plan to keep the public updated through the summer.

Meanwhile, Bennett and Peterborough CHC interim co-executive director David Jeffery told city councillors in an update at city hall on Monday night that the centre is not getting all the operating funding it had hoped to receive, from the Ontario government.

It is getting $4.8 million annually from the Ontario government, they said, though they’d applied for $8 million annually.
