“Where Healing and Education Meet”
Greetings From Our Chief Executive Officer
Tansi!
My name is Josie Auger, CEO of the Nechi Training, Research and Health Promotions Institute. I am thankful to Creator, Mother Earth, Grandmothers and Grandfathers for all of the values contained within our teachings of Natural Law as passed down from the Elders. As I have been told by Elders, when we are born Indigenous we have a responsibility to honor and respect Creation and Mother Earth because we are all part of Creation. The word ”Nechi” is a Cree word for friend or helper and we continue to advance our role for the betterment of Aboriginal communities. At the Nechi Institute we are continuing to provide training, research and health promotions. Nechi Institute continues to build upon the foundation of whence it began in 1974 under leadership of Eric Shirt and strong, supportive, community Elders. With the values of kindness, honesty, caring and strength we continue to work towards completing our vision to enhance the cultural component through Elders and knowledge keepers. Nechi will:
1. Open the door to new knowledge in training, research and health promotions
2. Revise the curriculum and merge current western and traditional knowledge
3. Embrace innovation and technology
4. Develop “oskiya,” a Cree Term for new people
5. Expand our programs and services regionally, nationally and internationally.
