NDP Call For Expanded Mercury Compensation On Grassy Narrows – 89.5 The Lake FM

The NDP is asking the Ford Government to increase the number of people eligible for mercury compensation on the Grassy Narrows First Nation.
Party Leader Andrea Horwath says as many as 94 percent of the residents suffer from some form of exposure to mercury from the English-Wabigoon River System.
“Will the government commit to updating the Mercury Disability Board, so that all Grassy Narrows community members suffering from the affects of mercury exposure can receive the fair and full compensation they so rightfully deserve.”
Indigenous Affairs Minister Greg Rickford says as recently as last month, the government made changes to the Mercury Disability payments indexing them to the cost of inflation and updating the 30 year old registry.
