National Aboriginal Diabetes Awareness Day 2016

On April 30, 1999, Assembly of First Nations Grand Chief Phil Fontaine proclaimed the first Friday in May as “National Aboriginal Diabetes Awareness Day”. Since then, thousands of children, adults and Elders have participated in community walks, gatherings, and events that promote the prevention and management of type 2 diabetes.

National Aboriginal Diabetes Awareness Day falls on Friday, May 6, this year. The National Aboriginal Diabetes Association is holding a special event to mark this day. The event will feature interative speakers, sessions, workshops as well as healthy lunch. The event is free to attend.

The National Aboriginal Diabetes Association is encouraging communities and organizations across Canada to organize events to raise awareness of type 2 diabetes.
