The online portal for applying for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit is up at 6 a.m. EDT today.
The benefit will offer many Canadians who have lost their jobs due to COVID-19 $2,000 a month to support them through the ongoing economic shutdown that has catapulted unemployment to levels not seen in generations.
The Canada Revenue Agency expects a busy day while Ottawa is asking those with birthdays in the first three months of the year only to apply Monday.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Sunday that the government is “working very hard to ensure that our systems are robust enough to handle the unprecedented demand.”
