Press Release

February 24, 2025

Métis leaders, policymakers, and health professionals gathered in Ottawa on February 5-6 for the 2025 National Métis Health Policy Forum, hosted by the Métis National Council at the Rogers Centre.

This year’s theme, Weaving Our Stories: Health Across the Homeland, emphasized storytelling’s role in shaping Métis health. The forum featured engaging panel discussions, keynote presentations, and interactive sessions exploring key priorities and innovative solutions in Métis health care.

MNO representatives highlighted the successes and challenges of Métis health programs, focusing on improving access to care, strengthening health systems, and addressing social determinants impacting Métis citizens’ well-being. Cultural performances, including traditional jigging and fiddling, alongside dedicated wellness spaces, such as an Elder’s room for reflection, fostered meaningful conversations and connections among attendees.

As the MNO continues its commitment to enhancing health outcomes for Métis citizens, insights from this year’s forum will guide future initiatives. The forum also underscored the importance of Métis-led solutions in shaping policies that address the unique needs of Métis communities.

The MNO extends its gratitude to the Métis National Council, event organizers, and all participants who contributed to the forum’s success.
