Press Release
Treaty One Territory, Winnipeg, MB – Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak (MKO) Inc. is issuing this statement to encourage all MKO citizens to ensure they are up-to-date with their COVID-19 vaccines.
Grand Chief Garrison Settee states:
“As the summer season comes to a close and we transition our children back to school, I urge all MKO citizens who are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccinations and booster doses to do so. Our children are preparing to head back to school, many for the first time in two years, and it is my hope that they will be able to have a safe and fulfilling school year.
It is important to keep your child’s routine immunizations up to date. The COVID-19 vaccine is now available for children as young as 6 months. While children are less likely to present a severe COVID-19 infection, they can still get sick and spread the virus to others.
I encourage all MKO citizens to continue to take steps to reduce the spread of COVID-19 by hand washing and sanitizing, covering your sneeze/cough, staying home when you are sick, and receiving your vaccinations.”
If you are First Nation and tested positive for COVID-19 after taking a rapid antigen test, please share your results with the First Nations-led pandemic response team at 1-833-639-2068. More information can be found at https://www.fnnhsm.com/covid-19.
