MKO Takes Part in Tataskweyak Cree Nation’s Back to School Event

The Minoayawin Keewatinowi Askik COVID-19 Vaccine Project Team attended the “Back to School” kick off at the Chief Sam Cook Mahmuwee Education Centre in Tataskweyak Cree Nation on August 30, 2022.

Project manager, Roxanne Balan, delivered a presentation about the project and promoted our COVID-19 vaccines survey. We will use the survey results to develop a vaccine tool kit that will roll out in 2023.

The objectives of the vaccine project are to:

• improve knowledge about the importance of vaccinations and their positive health impacts;
• address barriers to accessing vaccines for Indigenous populations; and
• increase the uptake of vaccines and booster doses.

Attendees were able to enter a draw after filling out the survey. The winners were:

• Vicky Keeper won a 10-person tent
• Doreen Garson won a coffee set
• Gloria Kitchekeesick won a popcorn maker

The visit to Tataskweyak Cree Nation concludes Minoayawin Keewatinowi Askik’s summer engagement sessions. We appreciate the feedback we received during this engagement session. It will be valuable in developing the vaccine tool kit.
