Iqaluit, Nunavut (March 7, 2017) – The Office of the Auditor General (OAG) of Canada tabled its report of health care services in Nunavut in the Nunavut Legislative Assembly today. Honorable George Hickes Minister of Health, met with the Auditor General earlier today to review the report.
“On behalf of the Department of Health, I thank the OAG for its insight and recommendations to improve health care service delivery in our territory,” said Minister Hickes. “The Government of Nunavut is committed to providing quality health care services. This report reinforces the actions and direction already in place to improve health care delivery and services for Nunavummiut.”
The OAG announced that it would conduct an audit of health care services in Nunavut in 2015. Department of Health employees were encouraged to engage in an open and frank process with the OAG. As a result, many of the report’s recommendations do not come as a surprise. In fact, in many instances the Department of Health has already undertaken initiatives to address challenges reported by the OAG.
