HALIFAX, N.S. —

Millbrook First Nation is in the final stages of creating a reserve at Shannon Park but before it can move ahead, it must receive support from Halifax Regional Municipality.

In 2014, Canada Lands received 33 hectares of land at Shannon Park from the Department of National Defence.

At the time, the federal government retained 3.6 hectares across Tufts Cove from the Nova Scotia Power generating plant and transferred it to Millbrook First Nations in response to a claim that the area was home to a number of aboriginal residents before they were displaced after the Halifax Explosion.
