From Mental Health Commission of Canada
On behalf of the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC), I would like to congratulate Drs. Danielle Martin and Pierre-Gerlier Forest for their thoughtful and forward-looking external review of the Pan-Canadian Health Organizations (PCHOs).
In the coming days and weeks, we anticipate devoting the time and attention required to thoroughly examine the detailed findings and recommendations. However, it is clear the reviewers have set out a bold vision for transformational change for the health care system.
Pharmacare has long been an issue that affects mental health, and the MHCC applauds the desire to integrate a national program, along with mental health care, into the universal system of care.
The reviewers have given us a mirror that reflects our accomplishments to date, and the areas where we can still work to improve. We embrace any and every opportunity to advance mental health and wellness for all. In particular, we echo the reviewers’ aspirations to work in full partnership with National Indigenous Organizations and communities.
We look forward to working with the Minister and Health Canada to ascertain timelines and next steps.
