The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) is proud to announce the launch of the MNO School Food Program, a new initiative designed to support Métis families and children across Ontario.
“Families are struggling with rising costs of food, housing, and other essentials,” said Mitch Case, PCMNO Councillor for the Huron-Superior Regional Métis Community and Provincial Secretary for Education. “The MNO School Food Program is about more than just groceries. It’s about caring for our children, strengthening our families, and building the kind of future our ancestors dreamed of.”
Through this program, Métis parents, caregivers, and independent youth can apply for grocery gift cards valued at approximately $400 per child. These supports are aimed at making nutritious food more accessible while easing financial pressure for families as children return to school.
In addition, families will be encouraged to explore a free online resource hub created to inspire and promote healthy habits for life.
The program is funded by Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada through the MNO’s Self-Government Fiscal Financing Agreement. As Case emphasized, this initiative is “a clear example of how self-government gives us the tools we need to meet the needs in our communities.”
Applications are now open and will close on September 14, 2025.
