As the mother of a new baby, 19-year-old Cecile Desjarlais welcomes the help she gets from Heather Rattanavong, the wraparound coordinator employed by her landlord, Camponi Housing Corp.
“Heather is giving us great support groups to go to … If we need help managing something, she gives us a number. If we need someone to look at a letter to be written up, she’s the one to go to. She’s just been great support ever since we moved in,” Desjarlais said.
“She also looks after people’s well being … I was low on garbage bags so she brought some over. She’s always concerned if (baby) Roderick is eating enough or I’m okay.”
Camponi Housing is a Metis-owned non-profit organization that recently formalized its long-standing policy of helping low-income tenants address the social issues that often disrupt living situations and can even lead to homelessness, said Camponi board chair Angela Bishop.
