Position Summary
We have a relief Med Lab Assistant opportunity within our Microbiology team at the Royal Inland Hospital Laboratory in Kamloops, B.C.The RIH Lab strives to provide safe, convenient, respectful and accessible laboratory services to our patients. Programs and services include chemistry, hematology, microbiology, histopathology, cytology, and transfusion medicine. RIH is a tertiary hospital and a 24/7 operation with state of the art equipment, acting as a regional referral site.

This position is within our Microbiology department, where the Laboratory Assistant performs a variety of duties such as receiving and processing specimens for analysis. Other duties may include performing routine lab tests, distributing specimens to Laboratory departments and/or outside Laboratories, operating related equipment, entering data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and performing other related duties as required.

This is a relief (temporary) 0.62fte position. Days of work are Thursday, Saturday and Sunday and shift times are 07:00 to 15:00, 10:00 to 18:00, 15:00 to 23:00 and 23:00 to 07:00. Employees are eligible to apply for internally listed positions including relief and permanent opportunities, in addition to bidding for casual shifts.

Qualifications
Grade 12
Successful completion of a recognized Laboratory Assistant training program
One year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Valid BC Driver’s License as required
