Media Advisory – Roots of Empathy Program As An Investment In Health And Education For Nova Scotians

HALIFAX, Nov. 4 – Ground-breaking, Canadian, evidence-based classroom program, Roots of Empathy (ROE) currently celebrating its seventh successful year of delivery in the province of Nova Scotia will be hosting a classroom demonstration of this unique children’s program which aims to build caring, peaceful and civil societies through the development of empathy in children in adults.Mary Gordon, an internationally recognized educator, social entrepreneur, child advocate, and founder of this award-winning program will be in attendance at Fairview Heights School in Halifax tomorrow to host a Family Visit demonstration with a parent and baby in a grade six class.

Media representatives are invited to attend and there will be an interview opportunity following the demonstration.

Since the program was first introduced in Nova Scotia in 2003 the program has reached more than 6,000 children in over 250 classrooms. In Canada, the program runs in rural and urban communities, in English and French, and in Aboriginal classrooms both on and off reserve. The Roots of Empathy program is also delivered internationally in New Zealand, the Isle of Man and in Seattle, Washington in the United States.
