Media Advisory – National conference on substance abuse, Ottawa, November 4 – 6

Ottawa, Ontario, October 28, 2013 — Issues of Substance (IOS) 2013, Canada’s leading national conference for the substance abuse field is taking place in Ottawa next week, November 4, 5 and 6 at the Delta Ottawa City Centre Hotel, 101 Lyon St North.

With the theme “From Knowledge to Know-How: Learn. Inspire. Change,” the sold-out conference organized by the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse (CCSA) offers a comprehensive program of keynote presentations, workshops, exhibits, poster presentations and open forum discussions. Approximately 400 experts from the drug prevention, health promotion, treatment, research, law enforcement and government sectors will attend.

Keynote speakers consist of Dr. Gabor Maté, a Vancouver-based physician and bestselling author, Dr. Franco Vaccarino, Principal, University of Toronto Scarborough, and Professor, Department of Psychology, and Dr. William R. Miller, Emeritus Distinguished Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry at the University of New Mexico.

Launch of SAIC Report

Note: A news conference, accompanied by a live webcast, is being held during IOS 2013 on Monday, November 4, at 11:00 a.m. (EST) in the lobby of the Penthouse Level to launch a new report, Licit and Illicit Drug Use during Pregnancy: Maternal, Neonatal and Early Childhood Consequences. This report is part of CCSA’s Substance Abuse in Canada (SAIC) research series.

Media must register separately for the report launch news conference. Advance registration is recommended. Media who want to attend a live webcast will be required to register online.
