Media advisory: Minister Philpott and ITK President, Natan Obed, To Announce a Target Date For The Elimination of Tuberculosis Across Inuit Nunangat

Ottawa – Please be advised that the Honourable Jane Philpott, Minister of Indigenous Services, together with Natan Obed, President of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK), will announce a target date for the elimination of tuberculosis (TB) across Inuit Nunangat. The announcement will take place on the eve of World Tuberculosis Day. Rates of TB among Inuit were more than 290 times higher than in the Canadian-born, non-Indigenous population in 2016 and have been trending upwards.

A brief media availability will take place following the announcement. Tuberculosis experts will also be present to answer any technical questions.
